MADISON— A Madison High School softball standout has broken the North Carolina High School Athletic Association softball record for career homers.
Madison senior infielder/pitcher Michaela Drewnoski broke the record with a pair of home runs on Wednesday in an 11-1 victory at Madison over Charles D. Owen.
The round-trippers were the 40th and 41st of her career.
The state record of 40 was previously held by Izzy McCurry of T.C. Roberson. According to the Asheville Citizen-Times, McCurry is now a college freshman at Chattanooga State (Tenn.) and was the 2013 Citizen-Times All-WNC Player of the Year.
Drewnoski has hit nine homers this season for the Western Highlands Conference champion Patriots. She blasted 16 as a sophomore and 12 as a junior last year.
We appreciate coach Andy Grigg of Madison confirming the record totals.
