Long Time Coach, AD Bill Eutsler Passes Away At Age 96

     CHERAW, S.C. — Former Rockingham High coach and Richmond Senior athletic director Bill Eutsler died Saturday at the age of 96, according to various media reports including the Richmond Daily Journal.

     Eutsler was the head football coach at Rockingham High School from 1940 to 1942 before leaving to serve in the Navy during World War II. He returned to coach at Rockingham after the war until the school was closed in 1972 and then became Richmond Senior’s first athletic director when it opened in the fall of 1972.

     As a football coach, Eutsler compiled a record of 226-74-14 at Rockingham. He guided the Rockets to 13 conference championships and four state championships and also coached baseball and basketball there, including guiding Rockingham to a state baseball crown.

     Eutsler was inducted into the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame in 1990. He is also was a member of the North Carolina High School Athletic Directors Association’s Hall of Fame and the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame.
