The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) has a fascinating story on its web site that should be of interest to followers of North Carolina High School Athletic Association athletics.

         The NFHS has a feature about the Independence High School football program that won an NCHSAA-record 109 consecutive games, which is second nationally only to the De La Salle streak set by that California school at 151.

         Chris Leak, who still holds a number of NCHSAA offensive records, led the Patriots to three consecutive state titles while Independence put together seven straight crowns.
