Hoke County Names Third Induction Class For School Hall Of Fame

HOKE COUNTY NAMES THIRD INDUCTION CLASSFOR SCHOOL’S ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME

RAEFORD— The Hoke County High School Athletic Hall of Fame committee has announced its 2014 list of inductees, according to a press release from the school.

The inductees will be honored at special ceremonies on February 7.

The third inductee class includes Terrell Carpenter, a 1986 graduate who ran track and played football; Russell Davis, a 1972 graduate who was a football and basketball player; George Maynor, a 1975 graduate who played baseball and basketball; Alexander McMillan, a 1973 graduate who participated in three sports, including track, wrestling and football; Vernon Morrison, a 1977 graduate who ran track and played football; Harold Thompson, a 1980 graduate who ran track and played basketball; and David Wood, a 1972 graduate who participated in track, football and basketball.

The committee agreed this year to recognize one community member who has made a significant impact to Hoke County High School athletics and that person will be the Roll of Honor winner, Lonnie Hendrix.

The 2014 Hall of Fame committee was under the leadership of Hoke High Athletics Director Gary Brigman and included Deborah Carpenter, Billy Colston, Nelson James, Cleo McPhatter, Hal Nunn and Spencer Sampson.

The purpose of the Hall of Fame is to recognize, honor and provide an enduring memorial for excellence in athletics to those who excelled in athletics as well as those who made significant contributions and have enriched the athletic program and brought honor to Hoke County.

        A reception and banquet will be held February 7 in the West Hoke Middle School Cafeteria beginning at 5:00 p.m. The dinner is open to the public.

Cost of the dinner is $25 and once the dinner is complete, the inductees will be recognized between the varsity basketball games that evening at Macdonald Gymnasium on the campus at Hoke.
