HAYESVILLE —Hayesville High School has announced its new head football coach, according to the Asheville Citizen-Times, and he comes from South Carolina.
Hayesville has announced that Northwestern assistant Ernie Hughes will be the new head coach of the Yellow Jackets. Hughes replaces Gary Miller, who resigned in December after going 11-23 in three seasons.
Hughes has 21 years of experience as a head coach at four different schools in South Carolina. Northwestern won the state 4-A championship in South Carolina in 2010 and finished second in 2008 and 2009.
Hayesville went 4-7 during the 2011 season and plays in a very difficult football conference, as Smoky Mountain Conference members Murphy and Swain County both earned North Carolina High School Athletic Association state football championships last December.
