CARY—Two female golfers have earned performance listings in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Record Book from the same match, and one has tied the all-time nine-hole regular season record.
The Raleigh News and Observer reported the feat and Athens Drive High School provided additional information for the record.
Freshman Emilia Migliaccio of Athens Drive fired a 29 for nine holes at the Lochmere Golf Club in a Southwest Wake Athletic Conference match, equaling the best nine-hole mark reported for the Record Book.
Migliaccio had four birdies and an eagle during her nine holes for a six-under par 29. The course was playing at 2,392 yards on the front nine.
The only other 29 recorded in regular season action was shot by Ashley Thompson of Canton Pisgah in a Western North Carolina Athletic Conference match on October 3, 2012. Thompson achieved her feat on the back nine at the Lake Junaluska Golf Club, which was par 34.
Leigha Holt of Holly Springs also made the performance list with a 33 in that same SWAC event.
There have been 13 recorded nine-hole rounds of 34 or better in NCHSAA regular-season play.
Earlier this month Gabby Weiss of Pinecrest had the best 18-hole score for a regular season match. She fired a 64 in a Southeastern Conference match at Bayonet at Puppy Creek in Pinehurst. That was good for an eight-under par score on the 5,000-yard layout.
