Former Wrestling Coach, Official Passes Away

         REIDSVILLE—Mike Olivo, a long-time coach as well as an official, passed away on Monday at Moses Cone Hospital at the age of 70. 

         Olivo had been serving as a wrestling official for the North Carolina High School Athletic Association after an outstanding career as an athlete and coach.

         He was retired from the Rockingham County Schools after 30 years of service and had been an excellent wrestling coach at Asheville as well as at Reidsville.

        Born in Randolph County, he attended Asheboro High School, where he was an outstanding wrestler and was his school’s outstanding athlete as a senior as recognized by the Mr. Blue Comet award, and then went on to wrestle at Appalachian State University.
