PITTSBORO— Former University of North Carolina basketball standout Donald Williams has been named the new head men’s basketball coach at Northwood High School, according to Northwood athletic director Jason Amy.
Williams, who was a star player in high school at Garner, has just been named to the post. He formerly has been an assistant coach and teacher’s assistant at Garner, and he has also coached at St. Mary’s in Raleigh, Raleigh Charter, and Denmark Tech Community College in Denmark, SC.
Williams played about a decade of professional basketball, primary in such locations as Germany, Sweden and France, as well as touring for a year with the Harlem Globetrotters. He played four years for the Tar Heels and helped lead UNC to a 1993 NCAA basketball championship.
