A former Green Hope High School golfer and North Carolina High School Athletic Association state golf champion has added a PGA tour victory.
Brendon Todd won the Byron Nelson Open over the weekend in Irving,Texas, finishing with a score of 14 under par of 266 and outdueling Mike Weir, the 2003 Masters champion, down the stretch. It was Todd’s first PGA victory and he won the tournament by two shots.
It was the 77th career PGA Tour event for Todd, who twice in the past five years had returned to the Web.com Tour to regain full playing privileges. He earned $1,242,000 for his victory, a PGA Tour exemption through the 2015-16 season and a spot next year in the Masters.
Todd won the NCHSAA state 4-A individual championship three times, in 2000, ’02 and ’03. He played collegiately at the University of Georgia.
