ELKIN’S MACY WINS 1-A SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIPAS HENDERSONVILLE PLAYERS FALL IN BOTH FINALS
CARY— The third time was the charm for Elkin’s Tyler Macy on Saturday morning in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 1-A tennis championships at the Cary Tennis Center.
Macy, the singles runner-up in each of the last two years, captured the championship this time as he battled to a 7-6(3), 6-2 victory over Jacob Fuqua of Hendersonville in the final.
Kevin Weckworth and Lane Kiser of Kernersville Bishop McGuinness earned the doubles crown with a 7-6(3), 6-1 victory over the Hendersonville pair of Brackin Kirkland and Charles Colhoun.
