EAST FLAT ROCK— An East Henderson High School student-athlete has added her name to the North Carolina High School Record Book for three-point field goals in a season in women’s basketball.
According to the Asheville Citizen-Times, Stephanie Smith of East Henderson finished the 2011-12 season with 91 three-pointers, which would be the fifth best mark reported for consideration in the record book.
Mary Hall McArver of Gastonia Forestview is the all-time leader with 126, which she recorded during the 2002-03 campaign.
Smith scored 51 points against top-seeded Tuscola in the opening round of the Western North Carolina Athletic Conference tournament, which represented all but four of her team’s points in an 86-55 defeat.
