Don Shea, former media representative and a great friend of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association, died suddenly of natural causes at his home in Orange County on Monday, according to several media reports. He was 77 years old.
Shea was the sports director at WTVD in Durham for 17 years before going to work at North Carolina State University. He hosted a variety of N.C. State television shows for over 25 years. He actually worked the telecast of the first NCHSAA football championship that was televised via syndication over 25 years ago.
He was on the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame and also was active in a variety of community causes.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 pm to 8 pm at Walker's Funeral Home in Chapel Hill. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm on Friday, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Durham
