Defending State 2-A Champs Move Closer To Titles

DEFENDING 2-A CHAMPS MOVE CLOSER TO TITLES

       CARY— Defending singles champion Nancy Bridges of Shelby lost only three games in four sets on Friday to take a pair of wins in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 2-A women’s tennis tournament at the Cary Tennis Center.

Bridges will take on Hannah Archer of Lake Norman Charter in one Saturday semifinal, with Archer not losing a single game in her two Friday victories.  Anni Neiss of Franklin plays Cassidy Shell of Catawba Bandys in the other singles semifinal.

In doubles, Taylor Snowden and Emma McLeod of Brevard are seeking a second consecutive state championship and advanced to the semifinals with a pair of wins. The Brevard team will face the Salisbury duo of Kayla Honeycutt and Anna Flynn in the semifinals.

The other Salisbury team, Alexandra Drye and Madeline Hoskins, had a couple of impressive performances, losing only two games in four sets. Drye and Hoskins will face Carrboro’s Danielle Sawyer and Olivia Shaheen.

Action is slated to get underway at nine o’clock Saturday morning.
