On this day in history in the NCHSAA, North Carolina signee Cetera DeGraffenreid poured in 16 of 19 foul shots and 36 of the team’s 52 second-half points to break a 33-33 halftime score, leading Smoky Mountain over Graham 85-62 in the NCHSAA 2-A women’s basketball state championship. DeGraffenreid’s 42 points and the teams 52 points in a half are the second most in NCHSAA women’s basketball championship history.

On this day in history in the NCHSAA, Dominque Wilkins stole the show as he earned the Most Valuable Player award, leading Washington over Rockingham for the 3-A title in front of a full house at Carmichael Auditorium. It was the Pam Pack’s second of back-to-back championships.
