            On this day in history in the NCHSAA, Gastonia Ashley pulled away in the fourth quarter and defeated Wilmington 51-44 to win the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 4-A men's basketball championship played at Carmichael Auditorium in Chapel Hill.
