RED SPRINGS—Former Red Springs High School assistant coach Ron Cook is returning to Red Springs as head football coach, according to a report in the Robesonian.

      Cook was the defensive coordinator at Lumberton High School last year and then also served as the interim head coach for the final four weeks of the season. He had been the defensive coordinator at Red Springs in 2012, when the team posted a 10-4 mark and made it to the third round of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association playoffs.

     Cook will take over for George Coltharp, who took a position as the offensive coordinator at Pine Forest in Fayetteville but has since left to become offensive coordinator at Lane College in Tennessee.
