CHAPEL HILL—Former Durham Riverside star Lee Land has been named as the new head baseball coach at Chapel Hill, according to the Chapel Hill News.
Land was selected in the Major League Baseball draft out of Riverside by the Pittsburgh Pirates, but opted to go to Wake Forest. He transferred to Arkansas and then wound up playing professional baseball before a shoulder injury ended his pitching career.
For the last seven years he has been on the coaching staff of the Durham-based Dirtbags travel baseball teams and last spring assisted on the staff at Riverside.
Tarron Robinson, who served as the interim head coach of the Chapel Hill team last spring, will be back as an assistant coach. Bill Kitchin has been named as the head coach of the Tiger junior varsity baseball program.
