Change In Asheville Soccer Coaching Duties

ASHEVILLE—Veteran Asheville High School soccer coach Mike Flowe is stepping away, but only from part of his duties.

Flowe has coached both the men’s and women’s teams at Asheville for many years, but he has announced that he will continue coaching the men’s program but has resigned as women’s coach, according to a report in the Asheville Citizen-Times.

Jill Miller, who has coached the Asheville junior varsity women’s team for the past six years, has been elevated to varsity head coach. She also coaches the women’s tennis team.

Flowe has been the women’s head coach for 18 seasons, compiling an excellent record of 317-92-24, and the Cougars have qualified for the NCHSAA playoffs every year since 1998. He will continue as men’s coach, a program he has guided since the 1994-95 academic year and also has more than 300 wins with those teams.

Flowe cited the challenge of coaching both teams with his own children in middle school and elementary school and said Miller will do a great job as head women’s coach.
