CHARLOTTE— C.J. Thompson of South Mecklenburg High School had a big night catching the football in a recent game against Myers Park.
According to a report in the Charlotte Observer, Thompson hauled in 19 passes for a whopping 301 yards as a South Meck rally fell just short. The Sabres lost to Myers Park 41-33.
The 19 receptions in a game ties for second all-time in the state listing, behind the 25 grabbed by Deangelo Ruffin of South Johnston against Harnett Central in 2004.
His 301 yards in receptions in second in the NCHSAA Record Book in a single game to the 336 credited to Chris Noble of North Davidson against Davie County on November 8, 2002.
