CATAWBA—A Bandys High School baseball star was selected in the Major League Baseball amateur draft on Thursday night, with details on the draftee in the Hickory Daily Record.
Hunter Harvey, the son of former major league all-star relief pitcher Bryan Harvey, was the 22nd pick overall, chosen by the Baltimore Orioles. The 6-4, 175-pound righthander was the 10th high school player taken overall and the fourth high school pitcher selected.
Harvey went 8-0 during his senior season with 116 strikeouts and only 17 walks, compiling a brilliant earned run average of 0.38.
According to the Hickory paper, the next step for Harvey would be signing a contract with Baltimore and then he would be assigned to a minor league team.
