CHAPEL HILL– Tanis Baldwin of East Henderson and Grace Yatawara of Salisbury have been named winners of the Performance of the Week awards, powered by Time Warner Cable Sports Channel with Subway® Restaurants.
Each week one male and one female athlete in North Carolina High School Athletic Associstion competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators. This is the first award in the series.
Baldwin, a senior, had a dominating performance to win the individual title in the NCHSAA men’s 3-A cross country championships at the Ivey Redmon Complex in Kernersville on Saturday. Baldwin, who had won the title in 2012 and was runner-up last year, finished about 36 second ahead of the field in cold and wet conditions.
Yatawara was the medalist in the NCHSAA state 1-A/2-A women’s golf championship held on the Red Fox Course at the Foxfire Resort and Golf Club and helped lead her team to its fourth consecutive state team championship last week. Yatawara had rounds of 72 and 73 for a 145 total, one over par, and won the tournament by two shots. She recorded four birdies on the opening day of play.
TWC Sports Channel typically will announce the winners of the awards during their Tuesday night SportsNight show and will recognize the winners throughout the week. Weekly recipients will also be recognized via Twitter and Facebook.
