ALEXANDER CENTRAL SOFTBALL HAS PERFORMANCES FOR NCHSAA RECORD BOOK
The Alexander Central High School softball team recently completed a march to the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 4-A championship, its fourth in fast pitch, and finished with a 33-1 record.
In the process, the Cougars compiled a number of marks that qualify for inclusion in the NCHSAA Record Book.
As a team, Alexander banged out 399 hits, a new state team record, and batted a whopping .408 as a team, which is fifth all time. The team also earned performance listings with 72 doubles and 27 home runs in a season.
Among the top individuals for Alexander was Taylor Wike, who batted .568 for the year. Her 67 hits is the second-most recorded in NCHSAA history, and she also earned a place on the “consecutive at-bats with a hit” list with 13 straight, between March 16 and March 23 of this season.
Wike also made performance lists with 52 runs in the season, 17 doubles and 43 RBI.
Bailey Rhoney of Alexander has a consecutive hitting streak of 28 games that is still active.
Congratulations to Alexander Central and we appreciate head coach Monte Sherrill providing appropriate documentation for these records.
