GOLDSBORO-- The baseball clinic run by North Carolina High School Athletic Association Hall of Famer George Whitfield is set for its 34th annual renewal.
The clinic is scheduled for Goldsboro High School on Saturday, January 14, 2006, and features another tremendous lineup. Registration is scheduled from 7:30 to 9:15a.m, and then the clinic will run until 6 p.m.
The clinic is open to all players from Little League through high school, and all coaches at any level are welcome.

OXFORD-- Webb High School is hosting the first annual Triangle Baseball Clinic at Webb HIgh School on Saturday, December 17,
Jeff Tate, head baseball coach at Webb, is serving as clinic director.
The clinic is open to players ages eight to 18 and coaches of all levels are welcome. The clinic will offer instruction in the fundamentals of baseball, and a special feature will be a two-hour "Baseball Scramble" where players and coaches can choose a topic of particular interest.

CHAPEL HILL—The Board of Directors of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association completed its two-day winter board meeting on Wednesday with a number of action items.
The Board, consisting of superintendents, principals, athletic directors and coaches from across the state, representing the eight different NCHSAA regions and all four classifications of schools, did committee work all day on Tuesday and then voted on items on Wednesday at the Simon F. Terrell Building, the home offices of the NCHSAA.

CARY— Kevin Mazariegos had a hat trick to lead Wilkes Central to an exciting 4-3 come-from-behind victory over Cardinal Gibbons in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 2-A men’s soccer championship at SAS Soccer Park on Saturday.
Wilkes Central trailed Gibbons 2-1 at halftime and fell behind 3-1 early in the second half before the Eagles erupted for three unanswered goals. Mazariegos, a junior midfielder at 5-9 and 160 pounds, was named the Most Valuable Player of the championship match and ended the season with 37 goals scored.

CARY—Senior forward Walter Cruz knocked in a goal in the first sudden victory period to lift Thomasville to a dramatic 4-3 victory over Manteo at SAS Soccer Park in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 1-A men’s soccer championship on Saturday.
Cruz, who had opened the scoring with a goal in the first 3:10 of the contest, was named the Most Valuable Player in the championship. He ended the season with a whopping 49 goals on the year.

CARY— After 110 minutes of play, it went down to penalty kicks and Jacksonville slipped past Mooresville
2-1 in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 3-A men’s soccer championship at SAS Soccer Park on Saturday night.
Jacksonville outscored the Blue Devils 4-2 in the penalty kick session to take the title. Goalkeeper Ross Willard of Jacksonville came up with a key save and then Kirk Peterson’s successful kick assured the Cardinals of victory.

CARY—Senior midfielder Matt Betts was credited with a goal and an assist to lead Apex to a tough 2-1 victory over North Mecklenburg in a battle of unbeatens for the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 4-A men’s soccer championship on Saturday night at SAS Soccer Park.

CARY—Four championships will be up for grabs on Saturday in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association’s state men’s soccer championships.
The games will be played at the beautiful SAS Stadium in Cary, the site of both professional and collegiate soccer as well as the previous three years of NCHSAA men’s championships.

RALEIGH—Lake Norman High School won the super large varsity division in the third annual North Carolina High School Athletic Association state invitational cheerleading championships at Reynolds Coliseum on Saturday.
Lake Norman is the only three-time winner in the history of the event, having won the super large division title in every NCHSAA invitational. The super large varsity division is for squads of 22 or more members.
Raleigh Sanderson captured top honors in the super varsity division and took the inaugural Carolina Cup.

CHAPEL HILL-- The North Carolina High School Athletic Association will be recognized by the University of North Carolina this Saturday at Kenan Stadium.
The North Carolina-Maryland football game, which has a kickoff time of noon has been designated as the 21st annual NCHSAA Day. The university actually spearheaded the founding of the NCHSAA in 1913.

RALEIGH-- Charlotte Providence made it two 4-A titles in a row in the 30th annual North Carolina High School Athletic Association state volleyball championships on Saturday night at Reynolds Coliseum on the N.C. State campus.
The Panthers closed out a 27-0 season by downing Person in three straight games by scores of 25-20, 25-18 and 25-11 before one of the largest crowds ever to see a state volleyball championship.

BURLINGTON-- Greene Central made its eighth consecutive appearance in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association women’s dual team tennis championships one to remember.
Greene Central, after finishing as state runner-up for the last seven years, broke through to win the state crown over Salisbury by a 5-2 count in the state 2-A finals at the Burlington Tennis Center on Saturday.
