Davie County outlasted Cary by a 41-23 count on Saturday to win the North Carolina High School Athletic Association’s 17th annual state 4-A dual team wrestling championship in Mocksville.
The host War Eagles dealt Cary its first loss in 40 matches while improving their own record to 42-1.
Timmy Allen’s victory by a pin at the 189-pound weight class sealed the victory for Davie, which was in the finals for the seventh time and fourth time in the past eight years. It was the Eagles’ second NCHSAA dual-team wrestling crown.

RALEIGH -- Eugene Godsoe of Southeast Guilford continued domination of his events in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 3-A swimming and diving championships on Saturday night at the Willis Casey Aquatic Center on the campus of N.C. State University.
Godsoe was named the Most Valuable Performer of the meet as he broke both of his own NCHSAA state 3-A records in the 100 butterfly and the 100 backstroke in winning both of those events for the fourth consecutive year.

The 20h annual NCHSAA state indoor track and field championships are set for Saturday at the Eddie Smith Indoor Arena on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Field events are scheduled to start at eleven o’clock Saturday morning, the sprints at noon, and then the ovals races at around 1 p.m.
WINSTON-SALEM -- There will be a free volleyball clinic offered at Wake Forest University on Saturday, February 25, 2006 from 9am until noon. Coaches at NCHSAA member schools are invited to attend.

Three members have been named by the North Carolina Athletic Directors Association as the 12th class for induction in its own Hall of Fame.
The new NCADA Hall of Famers include Cheryl Brewer of Bennett, Mac Morris of Greensboro and Phil Weaver of Greensboro. The three will be recognized at the annual North Carolina Athletic Directors Association state conference at the Grove Park Inn with the Hall of Fame banquet scheduled for Tuesday, April 4.
RALEIGH – East Lincoln held off Raleigh Cardinal Gibbons to take the men’s team championship in the North Carolina 1-A/2-A state swimming and diving championships at the Casey Aquatic Center on the North Carolina State University campus on Saturday night.
East scored 240 points to 190.5 for runner-up Cardinal Gibbons, followed by Mount Airy (176), Hillsborough Cedar Ridge (134) and Reidsville (119).
Johnny Hagaman of Black Mountain Charles D. Owen was voted the Most Valuable Performer in the men’s meet, setting a pair of 1-A/2-A marks.
CHAPEL HILL — The first state championship events of the winter sports season for the North Carolina High School Athletic Association are scheduled for this week with the state 1-A/2-A swimming and diving championships.
The 1-A/2-A swimming competition will be held on Saturday at the Willis R. Casey Aquatic Center adjacent to Carmichael Gym on the campus of North Carolina State University.
Preliminaries in swimming will begin at 9:15 a.m. on Saturday, with the finals scheduled to start at 5 p.m.

The long-time executive director of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association has been chosen for induction into the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame.
The official induction ceremonies and banquet will take place on Thursday, May 11, at the North Raleigh Hilton, with a public reception starting at 6:30 p.m. followed by the banquet at 7:15.

The Wachovia Cup award, sponsored by Wachovia Bank, N.A., and the NCHSAA, recognizes the high schools that achieve the best overall interscholastic athletic performance within each of the state’s four competitive classifications. The Wachovia Cup program is in its 27th year.
