BUIES CREEK— Salisbury’s Will Collins fired a brilliant four-under 68 in Tuesday’s final round to capture the individual crown in the 21st annual North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 2-A men’s golf championships at Keith Hills Country Club.
Collins had a 36-hole total of 143 after a first-day 75 and vaulted into the top spot over Ryan Lavelle of Raleigh Cardinal Gibbons, one of the co-leaders after the first round. Lavelle finished with a 145 and Ledford’s Nick Goins was in third place, three shots off the pace.

SILER CITY— Johnson York of East Surry took medalist honors and led his team to the team championship on Tuesday in the ninth annual North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 1-A men's golf championship at the Siler City Country Club.
York had rounds of 70 and 77 for a 147 total, and the three-over par mark was good for a one-shot edge over Craig Wood of Siler City Jordan-Matthews. Benjy Davey of West Montgomery was third, two shots back, and Tommy Gibson of East Surry won a three-way playoff for fourth place.

SILER CITY — East Surry’s Johnson York and Craig Wood of Siler City Jordan-Matthews are tied for the individual lead after Monday's opening day of play in the ninth annual North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 1-A men's golf championship at the Siler City Country Club.
York, who tied for 13th in last year’s NCHSAA 1-A tournament, and Wood each shot two-under par 70’s to open a two-shot advantage over Elkin’s Tyler Zimmerman.

BUIES CREEK— Ledford holds a three-shot edge over Raleigh Cardinal Gibbons after Monday’s first round of the 21st annual North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 2-A men’s golf championships at Keith Hills Country Club.
Ledford fired a 299 and is seeking to repeat as state 2-A champion. The Panthers have not been lower than fourth in the state tournament since 2003. Cardinal Gibbons is in second palce at 302, with West Henderson just five shots back. East Davidson is fourth at 309.

Page’s three-under 69 at the Fox Fire Resort and Country Club West Course puts him one stroke ahead of Wilson Fike’s John T.Griffin and Gastonia Forestview’s Harold Varner, who are tied for second.

It’s becoming increasingly difficult for schools and other organizations to purchase, install and maintain much needed equipment for athletic departments and other community groups. Sports Image – NC will help to provide programs that will allow schools and other groups to acquire this equipment free of charge.

The event is scheduled for the Fletcher Opera Theatre at the Progess Energy Center for the Performing Arts and comes the day after the spring meeting of the NCHSAA's Board of Directors has concluded.

CHAPEL HILL -- Carolyn Rogers of Perquimans High School and Hal Capps of Western Alamance High School are the recipients of the first-ever Toby Webb Coach of the Year Award given by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association.

CHAPEL HILL-- Eight "coaches who make a difference" by virtue of their exemplary sportsmanship will be honored by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association at the NCHSAA's Annual Meeting on May 4 at the Fletcher Opera Theatre at the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts in Raleigh.
The coaches have been selected for the Homer Thompson Memorial Eight Who Make a Difference award. The award is named in honor of the late Homer Thompson, the long-time Winston-Salem Parkland coach and member of the NCHSAA Hall of Fame.

CHAPEL HILL—Over 13,000 individual awards have been given by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association to student-athletes for their achievements in the classroom as well as on the playing court or athletic field.
The NCHSAA made the awards in its Scholar-Athlete program, which includes recognition of varsity teams which attain certain grades as well as individual athletes.
