RALEIGH — Katie Rosenberger singled home Guss Crist with the only run of the day as Pender shut out East Surry 1-0 in nine innings to win the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 1-A softball championship Sunday afternoon at the Walnut Creek Softball Complex.
Britney Roper, who went the distance on the mound for the winners, was named the Most Valuable Player of the championship. She struck out seven and allowed only three hits in the final.

GREENSBORO— North Lenoir exploded for six runs in its final at-bat on Saturday night to defeat East Bend Forbush 10-5 in the third and decisive game of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 2-A baseball championship at First Horizon Park.
The Hawks improved their record to 30-3 in clinching their second consecutive NCHSAA state title, winning 19 of their last 21 games. Forbush ended the year 29-6.

GREENSBORO -- Alex White used his bat and his arm to rally Greenville D.H. Conley as the Vikings defeated Jamestown Ragsdale 2-0 in the third and final game on Saturday night in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 3-A baseball championship series at First Horizon Park.
Conley, which dropped the series opener on Friday night but then won a pair of games on Saturday, earned its second consecutive NCHSAA title. The Vikings earned the 4-A crown last year and then moved to 3-A in the new alignment.

RALEIGH – Zach Andrews ripped a bases-loaded double in the first inning to get West Columbus off and running and the Vikings beat Chatham Central 9-2 on Saturday afternoon in the second game of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 1-A baseball championship series on the N.C. State University campus.
The West Columbus victory evened the best of three series at a game apiece. Chatham Central had won the completion of Friday night’s suspended game 9-8 earlier in the day.

RALEIGH- As usual, pitching and defense should be featured as the top fast-pitch teams in the state prepare for the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state championships this weekend.
The top four teams in each classification have qualified for the double-elimination tournaments at the Walnut Creek Softball Complex. All four of the championships are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.
The opening rounds pair Eastern representatives against Eastern representatives and West against West.

CARY – Senior Sarah Kirkley knocked home the only goal of the game with just 1:23 left to play to lift defending champion Raleigh Broughton to a 1-0 decision over Charlotte Providence in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 4-A women’s soccer championship at the SAS Soccer Park on Saturday.
It was Broughton’s nine NCHSAA state title and 13th appearance in the state championship game in the last 15 years. The Caps now have an incredible 68-7 record all-time in NCHSAA women’s soccer playoff competition.

CARY – Junior forward Tandy Banks figured in five goals as Jacksonville White Oak dominated play and rolled to a 6-1 triumph over Southwest Guilford in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 3-A women’s soccer championship on Saturday afternoon at SAS Soccer Park.
Banks, who was selected as the championship Most Valuable Player, scored two goals and had three assists to lead the way for the Lady Vikings. Banks finished the season with a whopping 62 goals.

CARY – Junior midfielder Samantha Dunn scored a pair of goals to lead Swansboro to a convincing 5-0 victory over Wilkes Central on Saturday afternoon in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state
1-A/2-A women’s soccer championship at SAS Soccer Park.
Dunn was named the championship’s Most Valuable Player as Swansboro dominated play en route to its 23rd victory of the year against one loss and one tie. Tawana Jackson also had a pair of assists for the winners.

CARY- Three North Carolina High School Athletic Association women's state soccer championships will be decided this weekend in the 21st annual NCHSAA finals at SAS Soccer Park.
The 4-A championship will be played Friday night at 7:30 p.m., and then a doubleheader on Saturday will feature the 3-A and the 1-A/2-A title games.
The 4-A championship sends perennial power Raleigh Broughton (25-0-1) against Charlotte Providence (19-2-2).
