DEFENDING CHAMP BUTLER WINS TWO
RALEIGH—Defending state champion Matthews David Butler had to rally in the seventh and then exploded for six runs in the 14th to outlast Chapel Hill 7-1 and move into the championship game of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 4-A softball championships at Walnut Creek Softball Complex on Friday night.

RALEIGH- As usual, pitching and defense should be featured as the top fast-pitch teams in the state prepare for the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state championships this weekend.
The top four teams in each classification have qualified for the double-elimination tournaments at the Walnut Creek Softball Complex. All four of the championships are scheduled for Friday and Saturday.
The opening rounds pair Eastern representatives against Eastern representatives and West against West.

CHAPEL HILL—The schedules have been set for the 91st annual edition of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association’s state baseball championship series.
Two of the series, including the 1-A and 4-A championships, will be played at Five County Stadium in Zebulon, the home of the Carolina Mudcats. The 2-A and 3-A championships are scheduled for Doak Field on the campus of North Carolina State University in Raleigh. All of the series are best of three games.

CARY – Junior captain Camille Morgan had a goal and an assist to lead Raleigh Charter to a 3-0 victory over Kernersville Bishop McGuinness in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association women’s 1-A state soccer championship on Saturday at Koka Booth Field at the SAS Soccer Park.
Morgan, who is already Raleigh Charter’s all-time leading scorer, earned the Most Valuable Player award for the championship as the Phoenix earned their first team title as a member of the NCHSAA.

BANKS IS MVP AGAIN AS WHITE OAK BEATS CATHOLIC
FOR NCHSAA STATE 3-A WOMEN’S SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP
CARY—It was back-to-back titles for Jacksonville White Oak and back-to-back Most Valuable Player honors for Tandy Banks.
Banks, a senior forward, scored a pair of goals and earned her second straight championship MVP honor as White Oak edged Charlotte Catholic 3-2 in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 3-A women’s soccer championship on Saturday at Koka Booth Field at the SAS Soccer Park.

BURLINGTON - The North Carolina High School Athletic Association’s 17th annual state men’s dual team tennis championships will come to the Burlington Tennis Center on Saturday, with some familiar powers in tennis once again competing for state championships.
All four classification championships are scheduled for Saturday, with the 1-A and 2-A classifications starting at 9 a.m. and then the 3-A and 4-A to begin at noon Most of the teams qualifying for the finals advanced with victories in the semifinal round on Thursday.

CARY- For the first time, four North Carolina High School Athletic Association women's state soccer championships will be decided this weekend in the 22nd annual NCHSAA finals at SAS Soccer Park.
The 4-A championship will be played Friday night at 7:30 p.m., and then a tripleheader on Saturday will feature the 1-A, 2-A and 3-A title games. This will be the inaugural year for a separate 1-A championship since the number of schools playing the sport has increased to the threshold for having a separate championship.

NCHSAA MEN’S 1-A TENNIS
CARY -- Hendersonville’s Tyler Grove outlasted Fabrice Kalmbacher of Misenheimer Gray Stone Day School to win the singles title on Saturday morning in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 1-A men’s tennis tournament championships at the Cary Tennis Center.
Grove, who had lost to Kalmbacher in the West Regional finals last weekend, won the tough three-setter by 7-6(3), 4-6, 6-2.

GREENSBORO – Trenton Guy, Jr., and Gabby Mayo had tremendous meets to earn Most Valuable Performer honors, but both of their teams just short in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 4-A track and field championships on Saturday at the Irwin Belk Track at North Carolina A&T State University.
