CLEMMONS--The North Carolina High School Athletic Association state championships in cross-country for both men and women will be held at Tanglewood Park in Clemmons on Saturday.

The all-star game has been sanctioned but only for Saturday, November 10, 2007. Due to the dead period being in effect during this time, coaches cannot practice with any players that are planning to participate in the Red & Blue Senior Girls' All-Star Game on Saturday, November 10, 2007.

SOUTHERN PINES— Junior Courtney Gunter of Indian Trail Porter Ridge won her second consecutive state title on Tuesday in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association’s state 1A/2A/3A women’s golf championships at the Longleaf Golf and Country Club.



Gunter had the only even par round on the final day of play with a 71, giving her a 36-hole total of 145. That was good for a whopping 11-stroke margin over runner-up Laura Kinsman of Cameron Union Pines.

SOUTHERN PINES—Defending individual champion Courtney Gunter of Indian Trail Porter Ridge is in a position to try to make it two in a row after Monday’s opening day of play in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association’s state 1A/2A/3A women’s golf championships at the Longleaf Golf and Country Club.

BUIES CREEK – Gastonia Ashbrook’s Megan Burnham recorded a three-over par 76 on Monday to take the individual lead after the opening round of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 4-A women’s golf championships at Keith Hills Country Club.



Burnham has a one-stroke lead over Katherine Perry of Raleigh Athens Drive, while a group of five golfers is knotted at 78, five shots out of first.



Par is set at 73 on the 5,638-yard layout.

It has come to our attention that MANY schools that field a wrestling team have not registered and paid the $30.00 fee with the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA). With the quickly approaching start of wrestling season and schools being able to start hydration testing and skinfold measuring on Saturday, October 27, this is a major concern.

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK-- The North Carolina High School Athletic Association held its fall 2007 Coach-Captain Retreat over the weekend of October 12-14, the 26th in a series of successful events.



The event, part of the Association’s Student Services program, was held at the Radisson Governors Inn and attracted students from all over North Carolina.

MARS HILL- - Robert Lee Edwards died on Friday after a long illness. Edwards was a lifelong resident of Mars Hill, the retired superintendent of Madison County Schools, and a former president of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association.



He graduated from Mars Hill High School in 1938, and Mars Hill College in 1940. He then attended High Point College, where he graduated with honors in 1947.At High Point, he was a three-sport letterman and co-captain of the football team.

The Carolina Panthers of the National Football League are connected with an initiative that may be of interest to NCHSAA member schools.



The NFL Youth Football Fund Grassroots Program is a partnership of the National Football League Youth Football Fund (NFL YFF) and the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) to provide non-profit, neighborhood-based organizations, middle schools and high schools with financing and technical assistance to improve the quality, safety, and accessibility of local football fields.

All schools with a wrestling program are REQUIRED to register with the NWCA. Any schools that have not register need to do so IMMEDIATELY. Information regarding online registration and mail-in registration can be found on the NCHSAA wrestling page.



Also, if your school has not sent the name(s) of the person(s) doing the hydration testing and/or skinfold measuring, please download the Wrestling Hydration Tester and/or Skinfold Measurer Information form off the NCHSAA wrestling page and fax to the NCHSAA IMMEDIATELY.
