FRESHMAN REGISTER OF WILLIAMS TAKES INDIVIDUAL HONORS,

WILSON FIKE EARNS TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP IN NCHSAA 3-A GOLF



FOX FIRE VILLAGE— Freshman Robert Register of Burlington Williams had a one-over par 73 on Tuesday and held on to take medalist honors in the 23rd annual North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 3-A men’s golf championships at the Fox Fire Resort and Country Club.



The championship was held on the East Course at the Fox Fire Resort and Country Club, a par-72, 6500-yard layout for the NCHSAA event.

EAST SURRY WINS FOURTH STRAIGHT IN NCHSAA 1-A MEN’S GOLF



BUIES CREEK— John Welden of East Surry came from behind and won his second consecutive state individual title on Tuesday in the 11th annual North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 1-A men’s golf championships at the Keith Hills Country Club.



The championship was held at the Keith Hills II course, a par-72, 6500-yard layout for the NCHSAA event.

All schools that qualified to the 1A or 3A State Track meet much enter all their coaches, qualifiers, and alternates onto the Outdoor Track & Field Roster Form. (This can be found on the NCHSAA Track Page)

TOPSAIL, EAST SURRY OPEN UP SIZABLE LEAD IN NCHSAA 1-A MEN’S GOLF



BUIES CREEK-- Hampstead Topsail and East Surry have opened up a sizable margin over the field after Monday’s first day of the 11th annual North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 1-A men’s golf championships at the Keith Hills Country Club.

The championship is being contested on the Keith Hills II course, a par-72, 6500-yard layout for the NCHSAA event.

NCHSAA STATE 4-A TRACK AND FIELD



GREENSBORO – New Bern rolled to its third consecutive team title in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association men’s 4-A track and field championships at the Irwin Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T State University on Saturday.



The Bears recorded 64 points to 48 for runner-up Matthews David Butler. Southeast Raleigh was third with 44, followed by East Forsyth with 41 and Raleigh Wakefield with 36. A total of 45 schools scored points in the 4-A men’s meet.

GREENSBORO – Sherice Walker of Burlington Cummings swept to victory in four individual events to lead her team to the team title in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association women’s 2-A track and field championships at the Irwin Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T State University on Friday.



Walker earned the Most Valuable Performer award in the meet by capturing first place in both hurdle events, the triple jump and the long jump as Cummings won its third consecutive NCHSAA women’s title.

NCHSAA NAME EXEMPLARY SCHOOL, SPORTMANSHIP AWARD WINNERS





CHAPEL HILL – Two new major awards were presented to schools at the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Annual Meeting at the Smith Center on the University of North Carolina campus last week.



Watauga High School was named the second annual winner of the Exemplary School Award while Asheboro High School earned the 2008 Sportsmanship Award.

Please advise that the 4A Mid east Tennis Regional location has been changed to SANDERSON HIGH SCHOOL instead of Cary Tennis Center. The times are the same but the location has changed to SANDERSON HIGH SCHOOL.

GREENSBORO—Top athletes from across the state of North Carolina will compete in a busy weekend of track as the North Carolina High School Athletic Association begins its state track and field championships.

The weekend of competition will feature 2-A championships for both men and women on Friday, and then on Saturday the 4-A championships will be held, all at the Irwin Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T State University.

The 1-A and 3-A meets will be held next weekend.

Due to recent confusion regarding the NCHSAA AED Placement Project, please read for clarification.



This project was initially presented to the Board of Directors last winter and the Finance Committee and full Board approved usage of future endowment fund interest earnings to help underwrite the project.

CHAPEL HILL --- Jannetta Robinson of Pender High School and E.J. Abrams-Ward of Thomasville High School have been named winners of the 2008 Athlete of the Year awards by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA).



These are the top athletic awards given by the NCHSAA to honor the most outstanding male and female high school athletes in the state. They were presented at the Dean E, Smith Center on the University of North Carolina campus during the NCHSAA's Annual Meeting on Thursday.

CHAPEL HILL – The North Caroilna High School Athletic Association Board of Directors concluded its spring meeting on Wednesday at the Simon F. Terrell Building by taking a number of actions.

Among the items approved was the realignment plan for 2009-13, with Board accepting the proposal the Realignment Committee recommended without any changes.
