Please advise that the 4A Mid east Tennis Regional location has been changed to SANDERSON HIGH SCHOOL instead of Cary Tennis Center. The times are the same but the location has changed to SANDERSON HIGH SCHOOL.

GREENSBORO—Top athletes from across the state of North Carolina will compete in a busy weekend of track as the North Carolina High School Athletic Association begins its state track and field championships.

The weekend of competition will feature 2-A championships for both men and women on Friday, and then on Saturday the 4-A championships will be held, all at the Irwin Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T State University.

The 1-A and 3-A meets will be held next weekend.

Due to recent confusion regarding the NCHSAA AED Placement Project, please read for clarification.



This project was initially presented to the Board of Directors last winter and the Finance Committee and full Board approved usage of future endowment fund interest earnings to help underwrite the project.

CHAPEL HILL --- Jannetta Robinson of Pender High School and E.J. Abrams-Ward of Thomasville High School have been named winners of the 2008 Athlete of the Year awards by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA).



These are the top athletic awards given by the NCHSAA to honor the most outstanding male and female high school athletes in the state. They were presented at the Dean E, Smith Center on the University of North Carolina campus during the NCHSAA's Annual Meeting on Thursday.

CHAPEL HILL – The North Caroilna High School Athletic Association Board of Directors concluded its spring meeting on Wednesday at the Simon F. Terrell Building by taking a number of actions.

Among the items approved was the realignment plan for 2009-13, with Board accepting the proposal the Realignment Committee recommended without any changes.

CHAPEL HILL – Cindi Simmons of Smoky Mountain High School in Sylva and Thomas Evaul of Avery County High School are the recipients of the third annual Toby Webb Coach of the Year Award given by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association.

The two outstanding coaches will be recognized at the NCHSAA’s Annual Meeting on May 1 at the Smith Center on the campus of the University of North Carolina.

RALEIGH— Raleigh Cardinal Gibbons captured the top honor, the Carolina Cup, in the fifth annual North Carolina High School Athletic Association state invitational cheerleading championships at Reynolds Coliseum on Saturday.

BROUGHTON OUTLASTS GRIMSLEY IN OVERTIME

FOR NCHSAA STATE 4-A MEN’S SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP





RALEIGH – Junior Brandon Haynes scored two goals in overtime to lift Raleigh Broughton to an exciting 3-2 decision over Greensboro Grimsley in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 4-A men’s soccer championship Saturday night at the Durham Bulls Soccer Stadium at the WRAL Soccer Center.

RALEIGH-- The fifth annual North Carolina High School Athletic Association state invitational cheerleading championships are scheduled for Reynolds Coliseum on the North Carolina State University campus on Saturday.



A record number of over 100 teams have registered for the event.



Competition will be held in 10 different categories. The doors open at 7:30 am and competition will begin at nine o’clock Saturday morning.
