OrthoCarolina Performance of the Month – October 2025

The OrthoCarolina Performance of the Month Awards for October in the NCHSAA competition go to Jillian Young from Marvin Ridge and Garrett Young from Franklin

Jillian Young capped off the Month of October in style as she led her team to the 7A Volleyball NCHSAA State Championship. She racked up 41 assists as Marvin Ridge beat D.H. Conley 3-1 (25-20, 25-12, 20-25, 25-22) on October 31 at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

Young was named the Most Valuable Player for her efforts.

The senior setter tallied 1,052 assists this season as the Mavericks went 32-2 and won their final 21 contests, dropping just the one set in the state championship game along the way.

Diagnosed with thyroid cancer after her junior season, Young has set a tremendous example both on and off the court in resiliency and tenacity as well as sportsmanship. Prior to the state championship match, she was awarded the Farm Bureau Sportsmanship Award.

Franklin High School sophomore Garrett Young delivered an exceptional month of October, showcasing dominance on both sides of the ball for the Panthers.

In the final regular season game on October 31, Garrett carried the ball 36 times for 210 yards and three touchdowns, while adding six tackles, a forced fumble, and an interception on defense — a true two-way standout performance.

In October Garrett totaled: 110 carries for 746 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns and 31 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 1 interception, 1 forced fumble, and 2 quarterback hurries

Garrett has already become Franklin High School’s all-time record holder for rushing yards by a sophomore.

Congratulations to Jillian Young and Garrett Young on an outstanding month of athletic achievement!
