Eddie Simmons joined the North Carolina High School Athletic Association in August 2025 as Director of Officiating Services. Prior to his time with the NCHSAA, Eddie spent 29 years at Appalachian State University in various roles with the University Recreation Department, most recently as the Associate Director of Facilities and Operations. Additionally, during his time at Appalachian State, Eddie taught classes in the Recreation Management and Physical Education Program.
Eddie graduated from North Stokes High School in 1986, where he played Football, Basketball, and Baseball and was an All-Conference performer in his senior year in Baseball. After high school, Eddie attended Appalachian State University where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, and then Georgia Southern University where he obtained a Master’s degree in Sports Management .
Eddie was a Football Official for the past 29 years with the NCHSAA, and previously officiated Basketball for 23 years and umpired Baseball for 30 years with the NCHSAA. Eddie was selected to work the 2005 Western Regional Basketball Tournament and was selected to officiate 2 NCHSAA Football State Championships, as Umpire in 2010 and as Referee in 2019.
Eddie resides in Raleigh and loves spending time with his young grandsons Winston and Baker. He also is an avid golfer in his spare time.
