Forestview surges past East Rowan on day two to win 3A Men’s Golf Crown
PINEHURST, N.C. – Forestview entered the final day of the 3A Men’s Golf State Championship trailing East Rowan by three shots in the team standings. Avery Price’s 1-under 71 lifted the Jaguars’ day two spirits and propelled them to the 3A title as the team combined to post a day two total of 299 and a tournament score of 601, some fourteen shots better than second place East Rowan.
Drew Jurs helped anchor the Jaguars, firing a 1-over 73 to finish even on the tournament, and in a tie for second overall with Tripp Summerlin from Rockingham County.
The individual championship went to Patrick Stephenson from South Johnston who carded a pair of 1-under 71’s in the tournament to finish at 2-under on the tournament. After a bumpy start with a birdie and two bogeys on the front nine, Stephenson bogeyed the par-5 11th. After righting the ship on the par-3 12th with a par, Stephenson went for three birdies in his next four holes, closing out with a pair of pars on 17 and 18 to seal the victory.
