LANDIS—Andre McCain has been named as the new head men’s basketball coach at South Rowan High School, according to a report in the Salisbury Post.
McCain has been an assistant coach at Jesse Carson since 2011.
According to the paper, McCain is the ninth head basketball coach at South Rowan since the school opened during the 1961-62 academic year. He will replace Bryan Withers, who was the head coach at South for three years before taking the head basketball position at Salisbury in May.
McCain played his high school basketball at West Rowan and was also an excellent football player who went on to play on the collegiate gridiron at Elizabeth City State before transferring to East Carolina, where he graduated in 2004.
The new South Rowan coach has also been an assistant at East Rowan and served as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at North Carolina State University.
