On this day in history in the NCHSAA, Wilson’s Fike High School defeated Gastonia Ashley by a 21-7 count to take its second straight North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 4-A football championship. The game was played in Wilson as the home team rallied from a 7-0 halftime deficit.
