The 2025 NCHSAA Softball State Championships were held on May 30–31 at two premier venues in North Carolina: Duke Softball Stadium in Durham and UNCG Softball Stadium in Greensboro.
1A Championship Series

Game 1 – Union Academy 10, Perquimans 0 | Game 1 – Box Score
The Union Academy Cardinals took the first game of the 2025 NCHSAA 1A Softball Championship Series 10-0 in six innings on Friday afternoon at Duke Softball Stadium.
Avery Wilson worked a complete game shutout and gave up just three hits while striking out eight batters. She added a pair of hits and an RBI. Keilana Burgess went 2-for-4 on the day with four RBI, and Carlie Granger went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.
Game two is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.

The Association has partnered with the North Carolina Farm Bureau to award a pair of Sportsmanship Awards at each championship event, recognizing players who have demonstrated the ideals of outstanding character and sportsmanship throughout the 2024-25 season. The winners of the 1A Softball Sportsmanship Awards were Karsyn Clayton from Perquimans and Paisley Boatright from Union Academy.
Game 2 – Union Academy 4, Perquimans 1 | Game 2 – Box Score
The Union Academy Cardinals won their second title in three years with a sweep of Perquimans in the NCHSAA 1A Softball Championship Series.
The Cardinals completed the sweep with a 4-1 win on Saturday afternoon at Duke Softball Stadium.
Avery Wilson continued her success in the circle with another complete game on Saturday. This time, she allowed one unearned run on two hits while striking out 11 batters. She also went 1-for-2 at the plate on her way to winning the Most Valuable Player award for the Championship.
The Cardinals scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning as Keilana Burgess singled home Mckynzy Nash and Avery Chaney lifted a sac fly. In the fourth, Laney Hildreth and Chaney hit back-to-back RBI singles to extend the lead.
Perquimans scratched out a run in the top of the sixth as Marli Wiggins stole home, but that would be the Pirates’ only run of the game.
The Cardinals finished the year 29-1 and are now 4-0 in the NCHSAA State Championship Series. Perquimans ended the year 27-4.
2A Championship Series

Game 1 – West Wilkes 9, North Lenoir 1 | Game 1 – Box Score
The West Wilkes Blackhawks earned the win in the first game of the 2A NCHSAA Softball Championship Series as they topped North Lenoir 9-1 on Friday afternoon at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro Softball Stadium.
Maddie Rouse hit a solo home run for North Lenoir in the top of the first inning, but West Wilkes held them off the scoreboard the rest of the way. Kelsey Madden went the distance in the circle for the Blackhawks and allowed just one run on four hits while striking out nine batters.
Madden also went 3-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs and a home run of her own, a three-run shot in the third inning. Zoey Woodruff added a two-run home run in the fifth inning as West Wilkes stretched out its lead.
Game two is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Game 2 – West Wilkes 3, North Lenoir 2 | Game 2 – Box Score
Behind a strong defense, the West Wilkes Blackhawks swept the North Lenoir Hawks with a 3-2 win in Game 2 of the NCHSAA 2A Softball Championship Series on Saturday at the UNCG Softball Stadium.
The Blackhawks took the lead in the top of the fourth inning as Leah Greene singled to right field to score Kaylee Pilkenton. In the next at-bat, Aubrianna Nichols reached on a dropped third strike and came around to score with Greene, after a pair of errors.
North Lenoir pulled back into the game in the fifth when Alyssa Hatcher doubled home Lakyn Whitley and Hallie Fowler. The Hawks threatened again in the sixth, but a dropped third strike baserunning error turned into an inning-ending double play.
North Lenoir outhit West Wilkes 7-5 but gave up five errors. The Blackhawks did not commit an error on Saturday. West Wilkes Pitcher Kelsey Madden threw another complete game and allowed two runs on seven hits while striking out seven batters. She was named the Most Valuable Player for the Championship.
West Wilkes has now won two NCHSAA Softball State Championships, but this was the first in the 2A Classification. Head Coach Michael Woodruff and the Blackhawks won the 1A Championship in 2013. This was the third appearance in the finals for North Lenoir.
3A Championship Series

Game 1 – Rockingham County 5, Scotland 2 | Game 1 — Box Score
The Rockingham County Cougars used a four-run third inning to top Scotland 5-2 in the first game of the NCHSAA 3A Softball Championship Series on Friday night at the UNCG Softball Stadium.
Rockingham’s Macey Hardy went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored to pace the Cougars at the dish. Ava Grace Pruitt also added an RBI. Pruitt tossed a complete game for the Cougars as well, allowing just two earned runs on five hits while racking up 12 strikeouts.
Kennidy Kirby, Zoey Snead, and Bailey Macey all added a hit and a run for the Cougars. For the Scots, Avery Stutts threw a complete game and struck out eight batters, and she went 1-for-3 with an RBI at the plate.
Game two is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday.

Game 2 – Rockingham County 1, Scotland 0 | Game 2 – Box Score
The Rockingham County Cougars walked off on the Scotland Fighting Scots 1-0 in Game 2 of the NCHSAA 3A Softball Championship Series on Saturday at the UNCG Softball Stadium to win the program’s first championship.
The game was tied 0-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, and Lily Strittmatter hit a one-out double to get into scoring position. In the next at-bat, Kennidy Kirby singled to centerfield to score the game-winning run.
Strittmatter was named the Most Valuable Player of the Championship.
Zoey Snead and Macey Hardy each had a pair of hits for the Cougars.
Ava Grace Pruitt threw a complete-game shutout for the Cougars and allowed just four hits while striking out 10 batters. A Stutts also pitched well for the Scots as she went 6.1 innings and gave up six hits with seven strikeouts.
The Cougars finished the season 28-1 and on a 27-game winning streak. Scotland ended the year 29-3 with the program’s first regional championship.
4A Championship Series

Game 1 – South Caldwell 3, D.H. Conley 1 | Game 1 – Box Score
The South Caldwell Spartans took the first game of the NCHSAA 4A Softball Championship Series 3-1 against D.H. Conley on Friday night at the Duke Softball Stadium.
The Spartans and Vikings were tied 1-1 heading into the final frame, but the Spartans went to work in the top of the seventh. Mallory Winebarger and McKenna Yount hit back-to-back one-out singles, and McCartney Harrington doubled to center to score both of them and take the lead.
In the bottom of the inning, Zalee Brown needed just seven pitches to pick up the win as she struck out the first two batters on three pitches and then forced a groundout back to herself to close out the game.
Game two is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday.

The winners of the 4A Softball Sportsmanship Awards were Bella Smith from South Caldwell and Timiya Pittman from D.H. Conley.
Game 2 – South Caldwell 6, D.H. Conley 3 | Game 2 – Box Score
The South Caldwell Spartans swept the D.H. Conley Vikings with a 6-3 win in Game 2 of the NCHSAA 4A Championship Series on Saturday afternoon at the Duke Softball Stadium.
The Spartans have now won two NCHSAA Softball titles as they also won in 2019.
South Caldwell trailed 2-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning but McKenna Yount hit a two-RBI single to center field and scored on a double from Sydni Woodward two batters later. Yount and Woodward added two more runs for the Spartans in the bottom of the sixth to put things away.
In the circle, Maddy Moore earned the win after throwing 5.1 innings and allowing three runs on six hits. Brown picked up five-out save, allowing just two baserunners in the process.
McCartney Harrington went 1-for-2 on Saturday and had the game-winning RBIs on Friday in the top of the seventh. She was named the Most Valuable Player for the Championship.
For the Vikings, catcher Lena Zurface went 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs scored. Harper Bradley and Kendall Howard each also added a pair of hits.
Conley finished the year 23-7 and made their sixth appearance in the final weekend of the season. South Caldwell finished the year 32-2.
