

Mount Airy Secures Second Men’s Golf Title; South Stokes’ Slate Earns Individual Championship
Southern Pines – The Mount Airy Granite Bears won their second NCHSAA Men’s Golf Championship on Tuesday, finishing just two shots clear of Christ the King. The Championship was shortened to 18 holes due to rain on Monday.
Mount Airy senior Brandon Bowman led the way for the Granite Bears as he posted a four-over-par 76 on Tuesday to finish fifth on the individual leaderboard. Shockley Hiatt added an 80 to finish in 20th.
The Crusaders were led by senior Colin Ferrick, who took third with a two-over-par 74.
East Wake Academy finished in third place, just five shots behind Mount Airy ,and Bishop McGuinness came in fourth, three strokes behind East Wake. Union Academy finished in fifth place.
South Stokes junior Sawyer Slate and Cornerstone Charter sophomore Sam Caraher both shot an even-par round of 72 on Tuesday to finish tied atop the leaderboard. Slate topped Caraher to win the first individual golf championship in South Stokes history. North Moore senior Brady Preslar tied with Ferrick in third place, and five golfers tied for fifth.

Salisbury Claims Seventh Men’s Golf Title; West Wilkes’ Meade Makes History with Individual Championship
Pinehurst – Salisbury won its seventh NCHSAA Men’s Golf Championship on Tuesday at Pinehurst No. 6, squeaking by Pine Lake Prep by one stroke. Seaforth finished in third, just two shots behind the Hornets. The Championship is the first since 2012 for Salisbury.
The Hornets were led by juniors John McCoy and Sam Goodman as they both finished at 8-over-par for the championship and in a tie for sixth on the individual leaderboard. Pine Lake Prep was led by Harrison Aull, as he also finished in a tie for sixth. Seaforth’s Ty Willoughby posted four-over for the tournament and finished in fourth place, and Griffin Ching finished in fifth.
On the individual leaderboard, West Wilkes sophomore Slater Meade led by one stroke at after round one and posted a 5-under, 66 in round two to win the Individual Championship by six strokes over 2023 champion Pennson Badgett from East Surry. Meade’s 66 is tied for the third-best 18-hole score in State Championship history, and his two-day total of 136 is tied for the fifth-best.
Meade is the first Individual from West Wilkes to win a state championship in Golf.
Badgett finished even for the tournament to finish as runner-up, and Charles D. Owen junior Carson Murphy posted matching 72s to take third place.

Stuart Cramer Wins First Golf Title; Stiglitz Claims Individual Honors for East Lincoln
Fayetteville – Stuart Cramer claimed its first NCHSAA Men’s Golf Championship on Tuesday in Fayetteville, edging out two-time defending champion Terry Sanford in a playoff.
Oak Grove and Fred T. Foard finished tied for third, three shots out of the playoff.
The Storm was led by sophomore Lane Crotts, who posted a three-under-par, 141 (72-69), to finish in third place in the individual standings. Senior Aiden Vargosko also finished the championship under par after shooting two-under, 70, on Tuesday. Vargosko finished in ninth place.
Terry Sanford junior Charlie Horne also posted 141 to finish tied for third with Crotts. Freshman Hughes McCarthy finished the championship at even par and in 14th place.
East Lincoln’s Warren Stiglitz followed up his one-under, 71, on Monday with a 67 on Tuesday to finish six-under-par for the Championship and two shots clear of Fred T. Foard junior Brewer Lael. He is the first Men’s Golf Individual Champion in school history. J.H. Rose seniors Jack West and Lake Williams, as well as East Lincoln’s Jared Myers, all tied with Crotts and Horne for third at three under.

Pinecrest Secures Third Consecutive Golf Title; Hartman Wins Second Individual Championship
Pinehurst – Pinecrest won its third straight NCHSAA Men’s Golf Championship and ninth overall on Tuesday at Pinehurst No. 8, finishing 14 shots ahead of Broughton in second place.
The Championship was shortened to 27 holes due to rain on Monday.
Pinecrest was led by senior Colby Hutchens, as he finished in second place on the individual leaderboard after posting a 5-under, 67 on Tuesday. Junior Pete Myers and sophomore John Santospago finished in a tie for sixth after firing 67 and 69, respectively, in round two.
Pinecrest was 16 under par as a team in the second round. Brought was 11-under as a team on the day and finished 11 shots ahead of Charlotte Catholic. Hough came in fourth, and New Hanover took fifth.
On the individual leaderboard, Charlotte Catholic’s Will Hartman came in with a 65 on Tuesday after shooting a 35 on Monday to win the Individual Championship by two strokes. Hartman also won the 4A Individual Golf Championship at No. 8 in 2022.
Hoggard’s Dylan Lewis finished third, and Jack Pelletier from Ardrey Kell and William Carr from Broughton rounded out the top five.
