2025 Men’s Dual Team Tennis Championships

BURLINGTON – The North Carolina High School Athletic Association’s Men’s Tennis season came to an end on Saturday at the Burlington Tennis Center as the Dual Team Championships concluded. 

Elkin three-peats as Dual Team Champs

The Elkin Buckin’ Elks won their third straight NCHSAA Men’s Dual Team Tennis Championship and 11th all-time with a 6-2 victory over Eno River Academy on Saturday.

Eno River’s Nathan Bermeo, the 2024 NCHSAA 1A Singles Champion, won his singles match with Connor Ballard 6-0, 6-1 and Tyler Kirby won the no. 5 singles match with Emery Hall 5-7, 6-1 [10-4], but the Elks won the other four singles matches.

Aidan Ballard beat Eli Edwards 6-1, 6-2 and Grant Ballard beat Jack Wendelbo 6-1, 6-0. Reagan Whitley, who was named the Most Valuable Player of the 1A Dual Team Championships, beat Jack Krootheop 6-3, 6-4. Webb Snyder beat Ivan Menolascino 6-1, 6-3.

In the doubles competition, Grant Ballard and Snyder beat Edwards and Liam Turner 8-2 to seal the championship clinching point. 2025 1A Doubles Champions Connor and Aidan Ballard were trailing Bermeo and Krootheop when the match ended, and Elkin’s Whitley and Hall were leading Wendelbo and Kirby 7-2. 

Saturday marked the first appearance in the Dual Team Championship match for Eno River, which finished the season 20-2. Elkin, which ended the year 18-4, is now 11-0 all-time in championship matches.

The Association has partnered with the North Carolina Farm Bureau to award a pair of Sportsmanship Awards at each championship event, recognizing players who have demonstrated the ideals of outstanding character and sportsmanship throughout the 2024-25 season. The winners of the 1A Men’s Tennis NC Farm Bureau Sportsmanship Awards were Emery Hall from Elkin and Jack Krootheop from Eno River.

Franklin Academy repeats as 2A Champions

Franklin Academy defended its 2024 NCHSAA Men’s Dual Team Tennis Championship as the Patriots beat Pine Lake Prep 5-0 on Saturday at the Burlington Tennis Center. The final match was a rematch of last year’s final, which the Patriots won 5-1. 

Alphonso Sison, who won the 2A Individual Singles Championship last week, defeated Jackson Grathwohl 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 1 singles match on Saturday in a rematch of last week’s Individual Championship match. Sison won the match last Saturday 6-3, 6-0. 

Sison was given the Most Valuable Player Award for the Dual Team Championship.

Derek Chute and Nick DeLisio, who won the Individual Doubles Championship last week, won their singles matches 6-1, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-2.  Hudson Collins defeated Cole Venus 6-2, 6-0 and Drew Bolick beat Jay Schaeper 6-3, 6-2. In the No. 4 match, Akil Vinodh was leading Christian Endsjo 7-6 [8-6], 4-1 when the match was clinched.

Pine Lake Prep made its fourth consecutive appearance in the NCHSAA Dual Team Championship match on Saturday and is now 1-3 in those appearances. The Pride finished the season 14-5.

Franklin Academy finished the year 19-0 and is now 2-0 in NCHSAA Dual Team Championship match appearances.

South Point goes back-to-back

South Point battled past Carrboro 5-4 on Saturday at the Burlington Tennis Center on Saturday to win its second straight NCHSAA 3A Men’s Dual Team Tennis Championship.

Both the Red Raiders and Jaguars won three singles matches. For South Point, Shiv Patel and James Dover won in the No. 1 and No. 2 matches and Tyler Cunningham beat Max Costant 6-2, 6-2 in the no. 5 match. For Carrboro, David Christescu, Kai Spira and Jackson Halsey all won in tiebreaks.

In doubles, Patel and Brandon Cunningham, who was named the Most Valuable Player of the Dual Team Championships, beat Theo Buchholtz and and Christescu 8-5 and the 2025 3A Doubles Individual Champions Dover and Dover beat Miyagwa and Spira 8-2. 

Saturday marked Carrboro’s eighth appearance in the Dual Team Championship Match and third in the last four years. The Jaguars are now 4-4 all-time in Championship Matches. South Point made its debut in the final last season and is 2-0 in those matches after beating Fike 5-3.

Green Hope wins third Dual Team Title

Green Hope dominated the doubles portion of the 2025 NCHSAA Dual Team Championship match to defeat Ardrey Kell and claim the third State Championship in program history with a 5-3 win. 

Green Hope and Ardrey Kell each won three singles matches to head to doubles tied. Chinedu Nwokedi, Vedant Kartik and Juan Urdaneta all picked up wins for the Knights while Adian Xu, Vivek Indlamuri and Seeraj Chenna won for the Falcons.

In doubles, Stephen Gervase and Indlamuri, who reached the semifinals of last week’s 4A Doubles Championships, won their match 8-2 and Xu and Aydan Sahir won their match 8-0. Neel Varadan and Bhatt were also leading their match 7-2 when the championship was clinched. 

Indlamuri was named the Most Valuable Player for the 4A Dual Team Championship.

Green Hope has played in each of the last five Dual Team State Championship Matches, dating back to 2019, and is now 3-2 in those appearances. 

Saturday marked just the second time Ardrey Kell made an appearance in the Dual Team finals as they made their first appearance in 2008.
