CONCORD – The North Carolina High School Athletic Association hosted its 23rd Annual Cheerleading Invitational at the Cabarrus Arena and Events Center in Concord on Friday. The event, originally scheduled for December 6, 2025, at the Raleigh Convention Center, was unexpectedly relocated after a fire at the venue.
Tar Heel Trophy | Weddington Warriors

Weddington won the Tar Heel Trophy for the third time in four years. West Henderson won the Tar Heel Trophy last year, ending a two-year streak for the Weddington Warriors. The Tar Heel Trophy goes to the best-performing team in the Game Day Division. The Game Day Division was introduced in 2021 when West Forsyth won the first Tar Heel Trophy.
Carolina Cup | Wakefield Wolverines

For the first time in school history, the Wakefield Wolverines won the Carolina Cup at the NCHSAA Cheerleading Invitational. The Carolina Cup is awarded to the top varsity team regardless of division. At last year’s competition, Wakefield won the
Varsity Performance Small Non-Tumbling – D1 Division and repeated this year with a score of 84.200. D1 is made up of schools in 5A-8A, while D2 consists of 1A-4A.
NCHSAA/Cheersounds Scholarship Winners
The NCHSAA and its partner, Cheersounds, are proud to recognize and reward outstanding cheerleaders exemplifying sound character and academic standing, good sportsmanship, and school spirit by providing financial assistance in furthering his or her college or university education. The NCHSAA, with the help of Cheersounds, awards eight $500 scholarships annually.
Recipients are selected from qualified applicants who submitted essays and recommendation letters from their coach and other school personnel.

Ella Bostian is a senior at Alexander Central High School and has devoted 12 years to cheerleading, becoming a central part of the program and ultimately earning the role of captain before her senior season. Through her long-term involvement in the sport, Ella has developed strong leadership skills, confidence, resilience, and a deep appreciation for teamwork. Off the mat, she is an active member of the Beta Club, participates in her church youth group, and gives back by working with children through a cheerleading camp. Ella also broadened her perspective globally by hosting a student from Normandy, France, and had a reciprocal experience when she visited France and experienced another country’s education and culture. These experiences strengthened her independence, communication skills, and appreciation for unfamiliar environments. After graduation, Ella plans to pursue a degree in nursing, bringing her compassion and dedication into the healthcare field.

Ariana Britt is a senior at West Columbus High School who has been a key member of the cheerleading team since her sophomore year, growing into a dependable and spirited leader both on the sidelines and within her school community. Beyond her athletic commitments, Ariana dedicates her time to giving back, regularly volunteering at youth cheer clinics, community pep rallies, and school-wide events where she serves as a positive role model for younger students. Known for her strong academic performance, Ariana excels in the classroom and approaches her studies with the same determination she brings to cheer. This fall, she plans to attend Methodist University to pursue a degree in nursing, with an interest in forensic nursing—a field that blends medical expertise with the pursuit of justice. Her compassion, drive, and commitment to service make her well prepared to succeed in this impactful career path.

Brinkley Housand is a senior at Union Academy and has been a committed member of the cheerleading team since her freshman year, consistently demonstrating enthusiasm, leadership, and school pride. Her impact, however, extends far beyond athletic involvement. In fall 2023, Brinkleys proposed and launched Cardinals Helping Cardinals, a student-led initiative designed to provide nonperishable food items to classmates experiencing food insecurity over weekends and school breaks. Her vision and organizational leadership not only strengthened her school community but also inspired her teammates, ultimately earning the program the 2023–2024 Commissioners Cup for community service. Through this and other volunteer efforts, Brinkley has learned the power of initiative, empathy, and teamwork—qualities she carries into all aspects of her life. After graduation, she plans to attend a four-year university and pursue a degree in atmospheric science with the goal of becoming a meteorologist, driven by her fascination with weather and her desire to help others stay informed and safe.

Lacey Mastro is a senior at East Rowan High School and has been a vital member of the cheerleading program for the last four years, contributing her dedication, spirit, and leadership to the team’s success. Her passion for helping others shines just as brightly outside of cheer. Lacey has volunteered as a junior cheer coach with all-star cheerleading, worked with First United Methodist Church and First Baptist Church, and assisted in numerous roles at Rockwell Elementary, where she has supported students and families through outreach programs and school activities. These experiences have shaped her desire to pursue a career centered on compassion and care. After graduation, Lacey will attend the University of North Carolina Charlotte with plans to become a life support specialist, a role that allows her to work directly with children who are facing fear, uncertainty, or medical challenges. Her empathy, patience, and commitment to service make her exceptionally prepared for this meaningful path.

Sydney Kees is a senior at Piedmont High School who serves as a captain for the cheerleading program, a role in which she has grown tremendously as a leader while guiding her team through challenges with positivity, accountability, and humility. Sydney is known for fostering a supportive environment where teammates feel encouraged, valued, and motivated to be their best. Her commitment to service extends far beyond athletics. As a Novant Health junior volunteer, she gained firsthand experience assisting with patient preparation and care, demonstrating empathy and professionalism in a healthcare setting. She also participates in the S.O.A.R. club, traveling to elementary schools across the county to support teachers and students in multiple classrooms. Sydney will continue her academic journey at UNC-Chapel Hill, where she plans to study environmental science and astronomy. Her long-term goal is to pursue a career in planetary science, hoping to contribute to a healthier, more sustainable planet through research and innovation.

Hannah Bradshaw is a senior who has been a valued member of the Topsail High School cheerleading program for the past four years, contributing dedication, skill, and sportsmanship to her team. Cheer has taught her the importance of commitment, perseverance, and working together toward a common goal, lessons she applies both on and off the mat. Hannah’s involvement in the community is equally impressive. She has volunteered with Meals on Wheels, the Key Club, and the national honor society, making a meaningful impact through service projects that support local families, seniors, and students. Her compassion and work ethic have shaped her desire to pursue a career in marine biology at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, where she will begin her studies this fall. Fascinated by the ocean and passionate about conservation, Hannah is eager to bring the same drive she showed in cheerleading to her academic and scientific pursuits.

Libby O’Leary is a senior at Athens Drive High School who has played an important role in the school’s cheerleading program, consistently demonstrating grit, determination, and a commitment to giving maximum effort in both practices and competitions. She is known for promoting good sportsmanship and supporting her teammates—qualities that reflect her strong character and leadership. Libby is also deeply engaged in community service and student leadership. She has volunteered with the NCHSAA as an SAAC member, served as the director of student leadership and engagement at Athens Drive, participated as a buddy with the Miracle League of the Triangle, and coached young athletes through the Mini Jaguar Cheer Camp. These experiences have strengthened her communication skills, compassion, and dedication to helping others. Upon graduation, she will attend UNC-Chapel Hill to major in psychology with a minor in business, aiming to combine her interest in human behavior with practical skills that will help her serve and lead in future roles.

Mackenzie Conaway is a senior at Northside High School–Pinetown who has been an important member of the cheerleading team from the moment she stepped on the mat as a freshman, contributing energy, discipline, and leadership to her team throughout all four years. In addition to her dedication to cheer, Mackenzie is actively involved in campus life through numerous clubs and service-oriented organizations, including Future Business Leaders of America and the Salvation Army. Earlier this year, she was chosen to join the social media team covering both the Science Olympiad and the Envirothon, where she used her communication skills to showcase student achievements and encourage school involvement. Mackenzie has a passion for helping others, and after graduation, she plans to pursue a degree in elementary education. Her patience, compassion, and dedication to serving others make her especially well-suited for a career in shaping young minds.
