CHAPEL HILL— La"Niya Simes from East Forsyth High School and Jaylan Bowen from Millbrook High School have been named recipients of the NCHSAA Performance of the Week award, Powered by OrthoCarolina. Each week two athletes in North Carolina High School Athletic Association competition are selected for this award from nominations received from coaches, media, and school administrators.
Simes, a Junior on the East Forsyth Basketball team, had 20 points, 19 rebounds, 6 steals, and 1 block last week vs Walkertown. The Junior Eagle recordefd back to back double-double performances last week. Totaling 37 points & 37 rebounds!
Bowen, a Senior on the Millbrook Basketball team, led his team to a win over Garner Friday night. The senior guard finished the game with 38 points, 5 assists, and 4 rebounds. Bowen broke the school record for the most three-point baskets made in a single game as he shot 9-13 from beyond the arc.
Weekly recipients will be recognized on the NCHSAA Website and social media pages. The deadline for nominations is each Monday at 5 p.m through the online form that can be found here.
