Yellow Card Tracking

Coaches will be responsible for tracking yellow cards accumulated by their players and/or team personnel (coaches included) and report to their athletic director.

(5) yellow cards accumulated by the same player/team personnel/coach will result in a (1) game suspension (miss next contest at that level and all contest in the interim). This suspension is not considered to be an ejection.

(10) yellow cards accumulated by the same player/team personnel/coach will result in an ejection (miss the next two contests at that level and all contest in the interim).

(15) yellow cards accumulated by the same player/team personnel/coach will result in a second ejection. As a result of receiving two ejections, the player/team personnel/coach will be suspended from all sports for the remainder of that sports season. This could be either (15) accumulated yellow cards, two ejections due to committing an infraction falling under one of the six categories of the Sportsmanship/Ejection Policy, or a combination of (10) accumulated yellow cards and (1) ejection, as a result of committing an infraction falling under one of the six categories of the Sportsmanship/Ejection Policy.

A red card disqualification that is not an ejection will equal two yellow cards and count towards the accumulated number of yellow cards.

Penalties are enforced at the conclusion of the game, and an ejection report must also be filed with the NCHSAA office for accumulation of yellow cards (10) or (15).

Rosters must be exchanged at the conclusion of each game showing the accumulated number of yellow cards by each player/ team personnel/coach. Rosters will still be given to the head referee prior to the game; however, his/her copy will not show yellow card accumulations.
