Alfie Wheeler joined the North Carolina High School Athletic Association in June 2025 as Assistant Commissioner in the Sports and Championships department. Prior to his time with the NCHSAA, Wheeler spent fourteen years at Manteo High School as an Educator and Coach. He was also the Director of Athletics at Manteo for nine years. During his time at Manteo, he spent time coaching Baseball, Football, and Soccer.
Wheeler graduated from Manteo High School in 2005, where he was an All-Conference performer in Football, an All-State performer in Baseball, and the Athlete of the Year. After high school, he attended High Point University, where he played four years of Division I Baseball. At High Point, he was a two-time All-Big South performer at shortstop, as well as a member of the Big South Conference All-Academic Team. He was also a four-time High Point University Millis Scholar Athlete.
Wheeler holds a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from High Point University, along with a Master’s in Physical Education from UNC-Pembroke. He is a Certified Athletic Administrator through the NIAAA, as well as an NFHS Level 3 Coach. In 2020, he was the recipient of the NCHSAA Charlie Adams Distinguished Service Award.
Alfie resides in Chatham County with his wife Tara, daughter Summerlyn, and son Atfield.
