POTW Week 18 Winners

Each week an athlete in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association is selected for the Performance of the Week Award, Powered by OrthoCarolina. These athletes are nominated by coaches, media, and school administrators for their outstanding performance.

The OrthroCarolina Performer of the Week for week eighteen of NCHSAA competition goes to Ka’Nyah O’Neal of Southside High School and Matthew Gray of Swain High School.

Ka’Nyah O’Neal truly embodies work ethic, grit, and dominance as she spent most of her winter break in the gym refining her skills on her own time. O’Neal’s hard work is paying off as she scored 58 points, grabbed 18 rebounds and had 10 steals in an 81-68 win over Beaufort County rival, Northside High School. She scored 29 in each half and even added in 6 threes! The 5’8 senior is only 35 points away from 2,000 for her career and only 89 rebounds away from 1,000 on her career.

Matthew Gray is a senior out of Swain High School who has put the whole country on notice in the world of track and field. This week Matthew cleared 16’8” in Pole Vault. He is now currently the Number 1 ranked pole vaulter in the nation. He continues to show a tremendous work ethic on and off the track as he holds a 4.6 grade point average.

Congratulations to Ka’Nyah O’Neal of Southside High School and Matthew Gray of Swain High School on an outstanding performance last week!!
