The OrthoCarolina Performance of the Month Awards for January in NCHSAA competition go to Albert Smelzer from Page and Jaleila Littlejohn from North Gaston.
Albert Smelzer, Page High School
Albert had a dominant month in January. Late in the month, he broke the 100 yard backstroke record for Page High School with a time of 49.59. He also broke the school’s 100 yard butterfly record with a time of 47.86.
Albert is a senior and has signed with the University of California (Berkeley).
Jaleila Littlejohn, North Gaston High School
Jaleila put together a consistent and spectacular month of January. She averaged 32.5 points per game in eight games. She also tacked on double-doubles in all eight games. Jaleila has carried her weight, scoring 70% of her team’s points in January.
