Madison Hughes is a senior at Mountain Heritage High School in Yancey County, where she was a member of the varsity soccer and golf teams all four years, earning accolades such as MVP in soccer and All-Conference in Golf while also appearing in NCHSAA Golf regionals and state championships for the past two years. Aside from sports, Madison is a scholar-athlete maintaining academic honors and earning an AP Scholars Award, is a member of the National Honor Society, and works with Student Government as the Officer of Public Relations and Officer of Gratitude and Acknowledgement. In her community, she has given basketball lessons, helped with junior golf camps, and organized homecoming events for her school. In the fall, Madison will continue her academic and athletic careers at St. Andrews University where she will play golf and plans to study Elementary Education. Madison notes – “I would love to become an elementary school teacher and return to my hometown to teach and coach golf.”

Colin Phelps is a senior at Watauga High School in Boone, where he participated on the football, baseball, and golf teams. Off the field, he is a member of Order of the Arrow, the Boy Scouts of America Honors Society, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (serving on the leadership team his senior year), while actively scouting each year. Colin has been very active in his community, volunteering with local homeless shelters, a pregnancy care center, and a women’s shelter, while also cleaning up fairgrounds, trails, and parks. In the fall, Colin will continue his golf career at Pfeiffer University where he plans to study Health and Physical Education. A thought from Colin – “I look forward to ‘giving back’ to the game of golf in the future. My goal is to work with youth similar to Harold Varner and develop a life-long love for the sport. I hope to play professionally and serve as an instructor to those following my path.”
