2020-2021 2A SOFTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME 2 | West Stanly sweeps South Granville with 1-0 victory

MOCKSVILLE, NC – West Stanly captured the program’s third fast-pitch State Championship with a sweep of South Granville in the 2A State Championship Series. Jordan Hatch led the charge for the Colts, spinning seven innings of two-hit shutout ball with 13 strikeouts to close out the series with a 1-0 win over the Vikings.

Hatch was dominant in both games in the circle for West Stanly, walking just two in the series’ final game on her way to being named the 2A State Championship Series Most Valuable Player.

West Stanly drew blood on the only hit of the game allowed by South Granville’s Brooke Bowling. Shelby Barbee took Bowling deep in the bottom of the fourth, giving the Colts a 1-0 lead and turning things over to Hatch to seal the deal.

South Granville wrapped up their season 14-2. The Vikings were 10-0 as champions of the Northern Carolina 1A/2A. South Granville appeared in the State Series for the 12th time in the fast-pitch era (including State Final Four double-elimination tournaments).

West Stanly polished off a perfect 20-0 season, winning the Rocky River 2A with a 10-0 mark. The Colts won the program’s third State Championship, returning to the top spot in the state for the second year in a row after defeating Eastern Randolph 2 games to 1 in 2019.
