The North Carolina High School Athletic Association crowned the 2017 State Champions in the Individual Men's Tennis Championships today at NC State's Indoor Tennis Complex in Raleigh and at Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center in Greensboro.
1A Championship
In the 1A Singles bracket, Pine Lake Prep's Max Vicario claimed his second individual championship defeating Raleigh Charter's Chinna Baskaran in the finals 6-2, 6-1. Vicario last held the title in 2015. On the doubles side, Raleigh Charter got their third straight doubles title as Harrison Tseng and Joseph Fisher combined to down Jacob Wenzel and Oliver Picot from Community School of Davidson 2-6, 6-3, 6-2. The win gave Tseng his third straight doubles crown and second with Fisher. The pair won the 2015 doubles title together.

In the 2A Singles bracket, Newton-Conover's Brann Reid captured the school's second-ever singles championship, the first since Brian Riley's title in 1986. Reid defeated Depei Yu from North Carolina School of Science and Math 6-3, 6-2 in the final. In doubles, Liam Baer and Cameron Wilson from Brevard defeated Jason Wykoff and Andre Javen from Carrboro 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. The victory by the Brevard pair snapped a string of three straight 2A doubles championships for Carrboro.

In the 3A Singles bracket, Terry Sanford's Henry Lieberman prevailed over Charlie Schuls from Forestview 6-3, 6-2. Lieberman reached the finals a year ago but was defeated by Marvin Ridge's George Lovitt. The win is the first championship for a Terry Sanford singles player since Ryan Noble did it in 2008. In 3A Doubles, it was an all Weddington affair as Logan Trimp and William Hatt knocked off teammates Grant Kimner and Henry Hatt 6-3, 6-2. The win was the first title in singles or doubles for the Warrior's men's tennis program. Last year William Hatt reached the final in doubles with Nicholas Ulehla, but fell to the Marvin Ridge pair of John Hatala and Avanish Madhavaram.

Wakefield duo Nico Grewe and Blake Carter nabbed the doubles crown, knocking off Hardy Brown and Charlie Snipes from Greensboro Page 7-6 (8-6), 6-1. The title for Wakefield is the third doubles title in the last four years for the program, with five different players involved in those championships.
