Ronan Takes Singles, Ncssm Duo Doubles In NCHSAA State 1-A Women

CARY—Maggie Ronan of Kernersville Bishop McGuinness won her 29th consecutive match of the season against no losses in clinching the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 1-A women’s singles championship at the Cary Tennis Center on Saturday.

Ronan, who last year was the singles runner-up to Kasey Mabe of North Stokes, defeated Mount Airy’s Taylor Gwyn in straight sets by 6-1 and 6-2 to earn the championship. Gwyn’s singles record dropped to 25-4, with three of those losses to conference opponent Ronan.

In doubles, Liana Roux and Amy Bahr of the North Carolina School of Science and Math defeated Jennifer Dameron and Molly Parks of Siler City Jordan-Matthews, 6-4, 6-4. The win by the NCSSM pair broke a three-year string of state titles held by Hendersonville doubles teams, and both of the Jordan-Matthews losses on the season in 24 starts came at the hands of the state champs.

Wendy’s and the Carolinas Ford Dealers are the presenting sponsors of the NCHSAA sports program.
