2025 Winter Board of Directors Meeting Concludes

CHAPEL HILL – The winter meeting of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association’s Board of Directors concluded on Tuesday, December 2, at the NCHSAA Offices. Over the course of the two-day meeting, the Directors met and discussed agenda items, with action taken on Tuesday. The complete list of approved items is below.

Consent Agenda

  • New Member Schools for the 2026-2027 school year:
    • The Hawbridge School
    • Revolution Academy
    • Wilson Mills
  • Complete Consent Agenda

Finance and Personnel 

  • Approved the 2024-2025 audit as presented to the full Board of Directors by Blackman & Sloop, CPAs.
  • Approved the 2025-2026 Annual Operating Budget

Policy

  • Approved the SMAC recommendation relative to rescheduling football games: “A minimum of 60 hours from the conclusion of game one to kick-off of game two. There should be no contact practice between rescheduled games.” This same concept will be applied to football scrimmages. Effective Date: 2026-2027 School Year 
  • Approved the elimination of  line ii in handbook section 4.5.3 (b) 2.ii, which reads, “Student-athletes absent for other reasons (e.g., funeral, quarantine, school suspension, etc).” 
    Effective Date: 2026-2027 School Year  

Review and Officiating

  • Approved Josh Milsaps as the interim Western North Carolina Baseball Officials Association regional supervisor and Angela Morton as the interim Metrolina Softball Association regional supervisor. Effective Date: Immediately 
  • Approved a five percent pay increase (rounded to the nearest dollar) for all officials in all sports. Effective Date: 2026-2027 School Year
  • Approved requiring all regional supervisors to add DragonFly as a payment OPTION for schools to pay their assigned fees. Effective Date: 2026-2027 School Year

Sports

  • Approved adding the language “Maximum” to the number of qualifiers for regional and state golf championships. Effective Date: 2026-2027 School Year
  • Approved requiring a minimum of FIVE rounds to be played by male golfers in order to qualify for the regional tournament. Effective Date: Spring 2026
  • Approved updating the conference tournament seeding tie-breaking procedure to use the NCHSAA RPI ranking in place of step four, which currently requires a draw. Effective Date: 2026-2027 School Year
  • Approved the 2026-2027 Sport Season Calendar
  • Approved requiring schools to submit an opt-out for individual qualifiers who elect not to participate in individual post-season competition. Signatures of the student-athlete, parent/guardian, and principal/designee are required for submission to the NCHSAA. Effective Date: Immediately
