NEWTON—Jonathan Tharpe has resigned as head men’s basketball coach at Newton-Conover High School, according to a story in The Observer-News-Enterprise.

         Tharpe has been coaching for the last 11 years at Newton-Conover and most recently served as the men’s varsity head coach after coaching the women’s team for several years.  His teams posted a record of 71-36 in men’s play and his overall record as a varsity head coach for the Red Devil teams was 143-53.

         Tharpe has indicated that he is pursuing an administrative degree at Gardner-Webb University in hopes of getting into school administration. He is a graduate of Newton-Conover.
